Youth in Local Authorities

	“YOUTH IN LOCAL AUTHORITIES“ A few comments about ……………… In 2003, the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities Abroad, rose the idea of organizing meetings between young people, elected or executives in European Local Authorities in Thessaloniki. The objective of the meetings is the concept and the experience exchange about the contribution of young people in Local Development and the activities of Local Authorities that affect youth life. More specifically, through this collaboration/contact the youth are able to achieve: A most thorough completed knowledge of the problems that concern the young persons in Europe. The acquaintance with Greece and its authorities. The development of methods for confrontation of the problems that concern young people in a more effective way. The promotion of the collaboration among the institutions in which the members who participate in this meeting belong, through the creation of treaties for the undertaking of common actions. The exchange of opinions concerning: The development of human potential and the participation of the Local Authorities in this effort. The culture and the way by which young people intervene at local level. The participation of the youth in different stages of administration and at the institutions of decision making. This multilateral meeting is partly financed by the European Union and specifically by the program «YOUTH FOR EUROPE», that manages the General Secretariat of New Generation of Greece. The first and the second organized meetings indicate that the objectives, that the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities Abroad set, are being achieved and that each coming year this meeting will include all the European countries from the Uralians till the Atlantic Coast. At the end of the second meeting, the participants decided to create their own site where all the youth that are interested about the Local Authorities can find a place to say their thoughts and ……"chat". Proposals about issues that youth and local authorities are interested in.. the participants of the meetings… photo gallery of the meetings… A few words about the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities Abroad This network is an institution in which participate the Greek abroad who are elected and engage in activities in Europe at the local or regional administrations in their place of residence. The network was created in the autumn of 2001, following the initiative of the Central Union of Municipalities and Communes of Greece, the Hellenic Ministry of Exterior, the General Administration of Hellenic Emigration and the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (department of Europe). The network aims to constitute an additional means of dialogue and undertaking of the following initiatives: The growth of a constant mesh of communication among the elected people of Greek origin in the various European countries. The encouragement of collaboration among the Local Authorities in Greece and the other countries in Europe, aiming at the promotion of common programs in the European framework. The promotion of European spirit and culture in which the contribution of Greece is believed to be essential.
